General description of DataMatrix
A two dimensional matrix code (2D code) providing high density information in the smallest space.
Square or rectangular, in various sizes.
High error tolerance, thanks to backup coding and error correction during reading.
Even if the code is partially destroyed, it can still be reliably read
The code can be read with hand-held or fixed mounted visual systems.
How is a DataMatrix code applied?
Either indirectly by means of a printed label which is stuck to the work piece, or by direct component marking.
Possible methods of direct component marking:
Stylus marking (with pneumatic or electrically driven marking needle) or laser marking (see section headed 'Laser technology'). In rare cases, a code can even be applied with inkjet systems.
Can be used on work pieces made of:
Aluminium, steel, stainless steel, plastics, cast iron, etc.
